No one can deny that a hospital or medical facility cleanliness is critically important. Yet in the year 2000, nearly 103,000 deaths resulted from Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI's) that were acquired while in the healthcare setting, nearly 75 percent of which were deemed preventable. Mathews Industries works hard with our hospitals to turn that number around.

The cleaning standards needed to clean hospitals actually force many cleaning service providers away from the industry, not Mathews Industries. We are certified with the Healthcare Cleaning Certificate Program and meet all Local, State, Federal and Joint Commission standards. The Healthcare Cleaning program is based on the best practices from organizations such as the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES), Association for Professionals in Infection Prevention (APIC), Association of Peri Operative Registered Nurses (AORN), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

While hospital cleaning cannot be 100 percent green due to the use of disinfectants to kill unwanted microorganisms, the use of greener cleaning products where possible to provide a brighter, healthier environment. We strive to bring environmentally friendly cleaning products to our clients' healthcare facilities.

We also use a color-coded microfiber system that reduces the chances for cross transmission during the disinfecting process. The use of microfiber cloths and floor pads along with the right chemicals at the right time reduces chemical use by an average of 40% without compromising patient safety in the healthcare environment.

We use environmentally preferable products, such as:

• Rubbermaid HYGEN microfiber systems
• HEPA/ULPA vacuums
• 3M specialized chemical dispensing systems.
